How can we accelerate reading development? Insights from India.
Feedback From a Learning Tour
DGMT has been exchanging ideas and learning with literacy projects in India. We have been intrigued by the claims of Pratham that children of about five to six years of age can learn to read within six weeks and that children lagging behind can catch up to their same-age peers. These claims have been substantiated through randomised controlled trials, which show that the benefits of the accelerated reading programme were sustained for at least two years. In this brief, we share insights from a learning tour to India.
